Mute Math

I arrived at Alewife at 5:45.

I rode the Red Line and the Green Line, getting off at Coolidge Corner
to have dinner with Brian at the Coolidge Corner Clubhouse.
I had an amazing Harpoon Imperial Pumpkin Ale. It was so strong (10.5% abv),
that I could feel it after just a few sips.

Then it was a steak wrap (very good) and a Goose Island IPA
what a great beer, super hoppy!

After that we walked the mile to Great Scott in Allston to see Mute Math.
The doorman was a humorless ass.
The opening act was a DJ named Quiet Entertainer. He was cool, and the set was mostly good,
with some amazing highs and some sound-tech issue lows.

Mute Math kicked ass.
It was just as powerful and frenetic and bass-heavy as I'd remembered
from the previous two times I've seen them live.

The old songs were great, the middle stuff was good, and the
new stuff was pretty decent as well.
A great show.

Finally!

...I am headed to a live show, for the first time in ages (see "The Club" tab at top).

I've seen MuteMath live twice before, and they killed it both times.

Early Resolutions

2015

I think my two biggest New Year Resolutions for 2015 are going to be:

  • A) truly honing my drawing skills (I want to get better with shading and line thicknesses).
  • B) finally putting major work into learning to play the guitar I bought back in 2009.
The rest of my usual resolutions (lose weight, go to many live music performances, travel more, etc...) will have to manifest of their own accord...

WPMF IV

For this year's 4th Annual Wyman's Pond Music Fest I sent out invites to the alumni:
...and I am looking for two new acts to round out the event, which I am hoping has an 'after dark' element this year.

WPMF3

Well, it didn't turn out quite as I'd imagined, but this year's Wyman's Pond Music Fest happened.

The Rafters (minus Miki, who was packing for her & Dave's trip to Disney World) played a great set while the sun lasted. Sarah Blacker (and her percussionist Sheesh) performed for an hour under the canopy while it rained. And finally, Kristin Cifelli played a handful of sings w/o plugging in during the downpour that followed. Chris (Almanac Mountain) and Elizabeth (Lorrey) were gracious enough to agree to perform at a later date, in either August or September, since the weather was ridiculous, and everyone had left by 4:30 pm.

Since the first two years were both sunny, warm and dry, the weather was bound to catch up to us...

There was a good crowd. The usual Oakmont suspects (Mike, Pete, Luc, Jody and Dave, plus Ann and Courtney); Paul and Nick both came from work, with their respective girlfriends (Tori and Anna) and friends; each of the musicians had at least one 'special guest' with them; and Sarah had two of her friends' families over with their kids. Relatives in attendance: Dad & Ma, Sarah & Jon and the kids, Holly and the kids (Kevin had to work), Ted & Wendy, Jeff & Jill and Lyndsey, Aunt Carol & Jim, and Jean Marie. Side note: Gavin drove down around 5:30 after everyone had left!

Dum Dum Girls

I worked from 9 - 3 today, and then after a quick drive to Alewife, and changing my clothes & shoes in the parking garage, I hopped the Red Line into the city.

I was sitting at the bar at T's Pub when Erik called to say he'd be late. It turned out to be a few hours late, but that was okay because the beer and food were good, and there was sports on the television. (rest later)
