Red Sox Wednesdays

I went to the Red Sox-Blue Jays game on Wednesday with my family. Jason bought 25 tickets for: Dad & Ma, me, Kevin & Holly + 3 kids, Sarah & Jon + 4 kids, himself & Stacie + 3 kids, Jaymi & Chad + 3 kids, and his best friend Ted.

Ma drove Dad, me, and nephews Sawyer & Jared to the game. I had a random 2-minute chat about my Boneyard Surf Shop t-shirt with a cute girl on the walk into the stadium (her parents have a home on Martha's Vineyard). I had a blast, sitting on an end seat next to nephews Hayden & Cooper, and tweeting about the game with them, and nieces Ryan & Celia. I had a pretzel & a bottle of water early, and then later I fetched soft-serve ice cream cones for Dad, Ma & myself. Ma drove me & Dad home, and we arrived at midnight, with an amazing full-family memory for the ages in the books. Thanks Jason!

Some Beer, No Boat

I went into Boston last night after work. I got to TOAD at 6:30 or so, and had two pints of Slumbrew's Porter Square Porter (great stuff), one alone, and one with Jay when he arrived around 7:30. When Gavin arrived we headed over to Tavern in the Square for dinner. I had some amazing fried calamari (with an Asian remoulade, whatever that is) and the small-portioned but good fish and chips. Our beautiful waitress Kristen was perfection on two legs: a Cameron Diaz facsimile with a much better smile, sparkling eyes and softer edges - hubba hubba! Jay left at the end of the meal, and Gavin & I took a cab to the Quincy Market area to meet Brian at the underwhelming Goody Glover's. Brian and his friend Erin arrived around 11:30 and Gavin stuck around long enough for two more beers (the decidedly average Sam Adams Boston Lager, unfortunately the best beer they had on tap). Gavin took off at around 1 am, the rest of us hung out 'til 1:30, a cab brought us to Brain's car, and then Brian dropped me at Alewife. A nice drive, and I was home at 3 am, very glad for having been out & about with the guys.

It was a great night. I got to see three of my best friends, with some overlap; I got to try a great new beer; and I got to spend time in the city on a cold clear winter night.

November Year's Resolutions

Yep, not 'New Year's Resolutions'. I need to get things on track, so I am making a list of things to work on in November beginning tomorrow (actually today):

  • Visit more: I haven't seen some friends in over a year, and that's just wrong, no matter how busy everyone is. I want to get up to Portsmouth to hang out with Brian, Rob, Erik and Chris. I want to get into Boston to hang out with Jay and/or Gavin. And I want to hang out with Mike and Keith around these parts as well.
  • Family Fun: I haven't seen Kevin in a long time (his fault mostly), so I will drop by on the next Sunday I happen to have off. I used to spend one day a week on average at Sarah's house when I was unemployed. I haven't been there since summer. And I will call Jason to gab with him and the kids at least once, since the likelihood of getting to California in the next 30 days is marginal at best (haha). Plus: at least two visits to Dad & Ma's.
  • Exercise: I have had some success with this over the last two months. I added two hikes to "Mountain Quest 2012"; and I worked out ten times. I want to ramp that up to two hikes this month alone, and I will do my best to lift 3 times each week (except for maybe the week of Thanksgiving/Black Friday/my birthday).
  • Eat Smarter: I need to stop eating after 7 pm, whether I work the day shift or not. And I need to quit the coffee in the afternoon as well. Plus, no Chinese or pizza delivered to my home! It's back to South Beach, as much as is practical with my schedule.
  • Get rid of clutter: My apartment needs to be reorganized top to bottom. I will jettison anything I do not need. I will get rid of clothing that is useless. I will rearrange the place to be more conducive to artistic endeavors. And I will winnow my comics collection to a more manageable size.
I will update every weekend until the month ends, including this weekend, even though it's only three days away.
